Welcome!

I’m Megan, the face behind Cookies & Crunches.  As a NASM-certified personal trainer, I have a passion for health, fitness, and an all around happy life.   I started this blog as a way to share my thoughts and experiences with others, and I hope you’ll find something here that you like.  Thanks for taking a few minutes to check out my story.

When I was younger, I was always very active with cheerleading, skiing, and other activities, but I never cared much about nutrition.  I ate what my parents fed me or what was convenient to grab before practice or after a game with friends.  I didn’t worry about my weight or my health, and I was active enough that I didn’t consciously have to think about exercise.

When I went to college, the organized activities stopped, and I was faced with many more food options.  I started to discover new things that I liked to do, new foods that I liked to eat, and new directions that I wanted to take my life in.  With all of the increased freedom and a chance to somewhat reinvent myself, I decided to change up my lifestyle a bit.  Since then, I’ve made a commitment to eating better, exercising regularly, and generally taking better care of my body.  Over the past couple of years, my taste buds have expanded and my body has transformed as I explore fun new ways to eat, work out, and just generally be more active – and I’m loving every second of it.

My interests have changed over the years, but every day, my passion for a more active lifestyle grows.  My favorite place in the world to be is outside, breathing in the fresh air, and I’m always looking for fun new ways to make that happen.  Whether it’s hiking, skiing, running, camping, riding bikes, spending time on the lake, or exploring cool new places – I love it all.  And when I can’t be outside, I also love traveling, lifting weights (yes, girls lift weights), making attempts at creating healthy new recipes, reading about cool new things, and spending as much time as possible with friends and family.

Healthy living isn’t a fad or short-term diet for me, but rather a long-term lifestyle goal.  I don’t pretend to be any kind of expert, but I really enjoy learning about healthy lifestyles and you can often find me researching things to that end.  My philosophy on food and exercise centers around balance, and I enjoy trying to get others on board with that idea as well.  I love how I feel when I get in great workouts and make meaningful food choices, but I’m not ever going to completely give up some of the not-so-healthy foods I love.  As I get further along in this journey, I continue to learn new things, and I am sure that I will continue to become healthier as a result, all while striving to maintain a positive balance in my life.

I have been an avid healthy-living blog reader for quite some time, and I use this blog to document my own journey. I post some of what I eat, some of the ways I workout, and random tidbits of my life along the way. I don’t expect that it will appeal to everyone, but I hope that some of you will find it interesting – and maybe even helpful.  If I can inspire one person to make simple, healthy swaps that will improve their own quality of life, then I consider it time well spent.

I’m also a blogger from the Granite State, but am currently South for the year completing my dietetic internship in Alabama. Love the skydiving pic! I did it as well for the first time for my birthday in October and LOVED it! Just wanted to say hello and look forward to reading your blog!
