I’ve Got The PowerPosted: August 22, 2013
I used to never go to the gym without a plan, but for the past few months, I walk in everyday not knowing what the heck is going to happen.
And I kind of love it.
One of the people I workout with finds/makes up the workouts that we do every day, and as much as I’ll sometimes complain, I actually really do like it. When I make up my own workouts, I tend to go easy on myself and only pick things that I’m good at and/or enjoy doing, but giving the power to someone else really makes me push myself. I know that if everyone else is doing it, I should be able to too. I don’t ever want to be the one to wimp out because I don’t like what we’re doing or I don’t feel like I’ll be able to keep up, so I always end up going for it.
And I’ve gotten a lot better at a lot of things as a result.
But this week, we’re on our own, so I’ve been tasked with coming up with the workouts. I’ve been trying to channel the workouts we normally do in order to keep us on track, and I think I’ve been succeeding. Over the past couple of days, we’ve done some pretty intense workouts – with me to thank! I definitely still get that ‘do I really want to do this when I don’t have to?’ feeling, but luckily, there are others in the group who push me as well. When I suggest we tone it down (even though I chose it), someone else is there to say we can get through it, and vice versa.
These ones might look easy written down, but don’t be misled – they weren’t. I think the power is going to head a little bit!
When it comes to food this week – there are two things going on:
- I’m trying to get my fill of solid foods before I go get half of my teeth ripped from my head on Friday.
- I’ve been packing and moving and cleaning in every spare minute so I haven’t had much time to cook.
The combination of those two things has meant I’ve been having the same three meals (which I meal prepped on Saturday) at least twice a day, and I’m throwing together what I can at night for dinners.
One of the meal-prepped meals has been spaghetti squash with ground turkey, tomatoes, and peppers. I add different spices each time I eat it, and it’s awesome. Plus, I‘ve been coming home on my lunch break and eating out on my porch in the sun, so it’s even more awesome.
The other two meals have been chicken and zucchini, and chicken, green beans, and tomatoes… no surprises there. And those are usually the two that I eat for breakfast at my desk in our cold, window-less office… so that’s not that cool either. One of the things I have been totally obsessed with lately though is grapes. (Red, never green.) In the past two weeks, I’ve bought two huge bags, and they’ve gone fast.
And finally, want to see what happens when you spend the entire evening packing and moving in the heat and you get home and you’re starving and don’t want to wait for something to cook?
That mess right there is two scrambled eggs with tomatoes and hot sauce… and it was actually pretty good. I threw the asparagus under the broiler while the eggs cooked, and I had a meal in minutes, which is just what I need this week.
It may not have been anything gourmet, but it was better than the McDonald’s I passed on my way home, so you won’t hear any complaints from me. Luckily, I’ve got the power over that too!
