Mental Fist PumpsPosted: August 15, 2013
In the past, I never would’ve classified myself as a competitive person… but I guess things have changed.
At the gym, I’m way more competitive with myself now, and I’ve even started to be competitive with other people, which is a lot of fun. But I’m noticing that competitive spirit in other aspects of my life too – like at work, and, oddly enough, in my eating.
I’ve always been a bit of a perfectionist, so I guess it shouldn’t be that big of a surprise that I’ve become competitive with myself about things. At work, I’m always trying to do the absolute best I can so that I can top myself and get farther than where I currently am. And now with eating, it’s become sort of a sport too, as I find myself pushing to fend off cravings for junk food and eat as clean as possible.
It sounds weird
out loud on the screen, but when I go a whole day… or two days… or three days eating as clean as I set out to, I give myself a big mental fist pump in celebration. If I wake up in the morning and say “I’m not going to eat a pound of chocolate or an entire bag of cookies or anything else that’s going to leave me with a major stomach ache,” and then I don’t… it’s a win. And then when I go one day feeling great, I challenge myself to go two days…
As of now, we’re on day 4 of 100% clean eating and I’m feeling like a champ!
Chicken, zucchini, and tomatoes have been one of the standard meals this week, and I’ve been spicing it up with different fruits on the side.
I’ve also been trying to focus on getting more (or, the right amount) of carbs, and corn on the cob, sweet potatoes, and dried fruits have been helping with that.
I made a big batch of chicken at the beginning of the week, and it’s made cooking dinners a breeze. One night, when I got home late, I just threw the already cooked, already chopped chicken on top of some lettuce, spinach, strawberries, and blueberries, drizzled it with a little balsamic vinegar, and I was good to go.
And for my evening snack/dessert/meal five, I’ve been loving apples, crunchy peanut butter, and dried plums. It hits all your bases as far as nutrition goes (fats, carbs, protein), and it hits all the taste and texture highlights too. Crunchy, chewy, sweet, salty… check!
Who says eating clean is boring? It’s like a little mini challenge every day!
How many fist pumps did you give yourself for staying on track this week?
