Mind Over… Burpees

(5 rounds of 15 burpees each plus three more rounds of other stuff? Are you kidding?) My fear of failure led me to water it down a bit (from 15 burpees to 5), but even so, I was still pretty nervous.
Halfway through the first five rounds, I did indeed want to lay down and die, but the thing is… I didn’t.
It certainly was tough, but it wasn’t nearly as tough as I thought it would be, so I just told my mind to shut up and let my body do the work. I finished feeling strong and accomplished – and I wondered why I ever doubted myself in the first place. (Next time, I’m definitely going for the 15.)
It just goes to show you that the mind is a really powerful thing. If you think you can’t, you probably won’t. But if you think you can (or better yet, you just stop thinking), you probably will.
Clearly, my mind still needs to catch up with what my body is truly capable of these days.
Here’s what it ended up looking like:
- Warm up: 10 minute walk on treadmill
- Bench presses:
- 15 @ 45lbs
- 10 @ 65lbs
- 5 @ 85lbs
- {8 @ 65lbs + 8 Upright rows @ 40lbs} x5
- Workout:
- 5 times:
- Row 250 M
- 15 Wallballs
- 5 Burpees
- 3 times:
- Row 250 M
- 15 Sit ups
- 10 Hand-release pushups
- {12 Barbell curls @ 30lbs + 12 1-Dumbbell tricep extensions @ 20lbs} x4
- Core:
- {10 Back extensions + 20 Obliques} x4
- 10 Hanging knees to elbows x4
- Cool down: 5 minute walk
For breakfast, I made the usual egg scramble, but on a whim, I decided to spice it up a bit. I bought two jars of hot sauce when I was in Mexico, and I’d yet to use either of them, so I figured there was no better time than the present.
Well, my friends…
Coming from the girl who snacks on habanero peppers for fun: this stuff is hot. I put a good amount of it all over my eggs, and let me tell you… I was sweating right there at my desk while I ate.
There’s nothing like a good kick in the mouth to wake you up in the morning!
Lunch was exponentially less exciting, and I almost didn’t even want to eat it, but knowing I had a fun dinner on the horizon, I stuffed it down. I did decide that chicken and zucchini are definitely not going on the shopping list next week though…
But you may not be so lucky when it comes to this snack because I don’t know that Fuji apples and almond butter could ever get old.
For dinner, my friend and I went to try out a new restaurant that another friend had told me about. (I am trying all kinds of new things thanks to her!) The Pit Stop is a local BBQ restaurant with great reviews, and it definitely didn’t disappoint. I love BBQ food, and I had a hard time deciding between the ribs and chicken at first… until I realized that I practically eat chicken every single day of my life. The sides were a lot less harder to choose; I had been salivating over the thought of baked beans and corn bread all day.
The food was great, and I’d definitely go back!

I remember putting that hot sauce on my tacos in South Carolina…. I was sweating for the rest of the day…
