Changes Are Coming!

Yesterday I started the day off with a pretty solid leg workout.  Even though leg day is tough, I have a lot of fun during it and feel great (albeit sore) afterwards, so I was excited to get to it yesterday morning.

I started off with a 15-minute walk and a 15-minute jog on the treadmill as part of my warmup.  After that, I did four sets of {leg extensions + hamstring curls} and four sets of {leg press + calf raises on the leg press machine} before I headed back up to my room.  In my room, I completed this leg workout again, and it actually seemed a lot easier this time.

The other day, I mentioned how I felt like I’ve been dragging a bit this week, and aside from the fact that all this travel/living in hotels/eating out of a cooler and a microwave is definitely taking a toll on me, I also feel like part of it is because I’m getting really bored with my current workout plan.  Luckily, I have a great friend who worked as a trainer/coach for a bit and is willing to write me up a new plan.

I’ve always only ever written plans for myself, but I feel like I’ve sort of maxed out my ability to come up with new and fun stuff for myself, so I’m really excited to start something new.  Aside from just being able to keep things fresh, I’m also excited to have a little bit of accountability to someone else as part of a new plan.  When I write my own plans, the only person I have to answer to is myself and no one will ever know about it if I cut corners.  But if someone else is writing them for me, then I might have someone else to answer to if I skip things, and I think that will help me work harder.

Okay, now I’m going to preface this next part of the post by saying that if you’re sick of seeing the same food everyday around here, you might want to go ahead and skip down to the bottom for something new. Nine days into this trip, my meals have gotten a little bit boring and repetitive (even more so than normal!) and I’m just trying to use things up at this point.

Three-egg scramble with spinach and green peppers for breakfast…

Carrots for a snack…

Chicken, zucchini, summer squash, and spices for lunch…

Apple + almond butter for another snack…

We had quite a long day at work yesterday, but afterwards, my coworker and I hit up the grocery store for a few things and then stopped at a local barbecue restaurant to pick up dinner.  Some of the other people on our team had already been and said it was good, so we figured we’d give it a try.

I got the half chicken with baked beans, plus it came with cornbread and I added my own carrots on the side.  The chicken came with a sweet BBQ sauce that was pretty good, and the meat was really moist and tender.  The beans were… not that good… but I always love cornbread!

It definitely wasn’t the best BBQ I’ve ever had, but I still enjoyed it.  And plus, it was something different… so that was a definite bonus.  At this point, there are only three more days before I’m back at home, so I’m really looking forward to that.  I can’t wait to start my new program and eat some different meals, plus I’ve got an awesome weekend planned, followed shortly after that by a fantastic vacation, so I really can’t complain. Smile

I hope you’re all having a great week!

Do you write your own workout plans or have other people do it for you?

Have you ever hired a personal trainer?

I have to say I’m a fan of pre-written workout plans for everything except swimming. The pool is the only place I’m confident enough to write my own work out (and usually I just wing it). I’ve never hired a personal trainer, though.

    I could go for a fantastic vacation…
