This morning, I snagged some peanut butter, butter, black pepper, and wheat bread from the hotel breakfast and brought it back to my room with me. I didn’t bring any cooking oils or spices with me and I didn’t want to buy any and have to throw them away, so I figure that’s where the butter and pepper can come in. The peanut butter is always good to have on hand for snacks and the bread can supplement meals.
Breakfasts when I travel for work are either eaten in my room or brought with me in the car, and are usually a mix of travel groceries and things from home or things from the hotel breakfast. For breakfast today I had two scrambled eggs, a wheat toast with butter, and a huge orange.
Lunches while traveling are usually at whatever places we can find around the warehouse. I’m really the only one of the group who has a healthy eating preference (or dietary restrictions, as Billy calls it – which I don’t agree with!!) so we often end up at fast food restaurants. The areas where our warehouses are located are usually not very cosmopolitan, so it sometimes limits what we can find.
Today we went to Jack In The Box, a fast-food hamburger place I’d never been to. I ordered the grilled chicken salad and I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t quite as good as Wendy’s berry almond chicken salad, but it was still pretty good for a fast food restaurant.
Travel snacks are one of the only things I can plan beforehand. I bring a bunch of healthy snacks to have on hand during the day so that if our meal timing is off and I get hungry or I don’t like what the group gets for lunch, I’ll have plenty of backup. Today, I snacked on a big bag of grapes in the morning, and a sliced apple in the afternoon.
Dinners on the road are usually eaten out by most of the group. I have the option to go with them, go out on my own (if I have a car, which in this case I don’t) or cook in my room. Sometimes I’ll eat dinners out, but often, by the time we get out of work for the day I just feel like getting in my sweatpants and relaxing.
That was the case tonight, so instead of going out, I decided to stay in and cook. I sautéed half of a green pepper and a plum tomato with a little butter and black pepper and cooked up a bit of whole wheat linguini.
Then I chopped up what was left of the chicken from last night’s dinner out and tossed it all together in the hot pan for a few minutes.
Not quite as good as the cheesy chicken pasta I make at home, but the spices on the chicken still gave it a pretty good flavor.
I was up at 5:30 this morning so that I could hit the gym first thing, so I’m pretty beat by this point in the day. I did this arm workout plus 30 minutes of walking/jogging on the treadmill and 3 sets of 30 Swiss ball crunches, and I was done before the sun even came up. It felt great to have it out of the way so soon, but I sure am tired now!
I’m thinking an early bedtime might be in order (which means I’ll have to watch Sons of Anarchy online tomorrow again this week so don’t tell me what happens!!) but until then, I plan on catching up on some of the shows I’ve missed this week. I was so excited to have Revenge start again, but I didn’t even get to watch it on Sunday! That will change shortly.
Have a good night! ![]()
