I’m Hot and I’m Cold…Posted: January 19, 2012
I knew it was going to be chilly again this morning, so I bundled up as best I could and headed out to work. I waited at the campus bus stop but of course the bus never came, so after almost a mile of walking in 15 degree weather later, I finally made it to work. Like I’ve mentioned, I’ve been obsessed with watching Flying Wild Alaska lately, and they’re constantly casually talking about how it’s often –30 degrees or worse, but I can’t even begin to imagine what that feels like. Even +15 degrees is painful. Yikes.
Before I headed out this morning, I made a quick breakfast for myself. All week I haven’t been all that hungry in the mornings, for some reason, but I know I will be later, so I try to psych myself up for eating a certain thing. Today I wanted something a little sweet, so I went with a Thomas’ Cinnamon Raisin Bagel Thin, one scrambled egg, some grapes, and a pomegranate green tea. It did the trick.
For lunch at work I had a good old PB&J made with raspberry preserves and TJ’s Valencia Peanut Butter on a Flax & Fiber sandwich thin. I paired that with some more grapes, baby carrots, and about 1/3 of that box of raisins for another something sweet. The crunchy peanut butter in the sandwich was such a treat. I will always love an old fashioned PB&J. I also had a handful of Chex Mis when BF busted out the bag around 4pm when we both (miraculously) were home at the same time this afternoon. The seasoning they put on Chex Mix is so good.
After some post-work errands, I headed to the gym feeling kind of weak. I think the cold weather gets to me. It’s tough walking around in sub-freezing temperatures with a backpack full of clothes and books and actually get excited to work out. I pushed myself though, and eventually made it through the entire plan. I did decided to do circuit one last though, which was a huge mistake. My arms were so tired by then that both kinds of pushups were way too difficult. I won’t make that mistake again.
I started with what has become the usual 1.5 mile warm-up walk/run and then went downstairs to the weight room for another go at Workout A. (<Click there for the workout.)
I’ve found lately that I may sweat more during strength training than cardio. Like, it’s no joke. I drip sweat all over the mat when I plank. I am constantly having to wipe sweat from my face and forehead so that I can see. I’ve always been quite the sweaty kid (I can remember waking up from naps as a kid drenched in sweat and having such a red face in gym class that they’d send me to the nurse to get checked out – true story) but clearly nothing has changed. I love it though because it reminds me how hard I’m working. When I don’t break a sweat (even when I am still working hard), it’s just more difficult to feel like I’m actually making progress. That’s just one of the many reasons I absolutely HATE when the gym is cold. It’s also nice to break a sweat in the winter when it’s super cold outside, but I make sure to bundle up really tightly for the long walk back to my car after that. Anyways, enough about my sweaty nastiness. Gross.
Remember last week when I said there was a meal I wasn’t proud of? Well, it happened again. Last night as we were about to go to bed, I asked BF if we could get pizza for dinner tomorrow (tonight). He laughed at my randomness but agreed. Today, I wasn’t really feeling it as much and kind of hoped he’d forget I mentioned it, but of course he didn’t, so pizza it was. We hemmed and hawed about where to go (as always, since we are the most indecisive people on the planet), before deciding to hit up our favorite spot near campus: Randy’s Wooster Street Pizza. They have great hot wings and really yummy thin crust pizza. It’s definitely our go-to pizza and wing joint. At one point last year, we were eating there once every week – I kid you not. I guess that was my bad meal of the week… hopefully I can make it through the weekend without another!
